Short Story Prize 2020

**NOW OPEN!**

Our annual Writing Prize is back. But this year we're doing things differently. Instead of writing an essay, we’d like you to get creative and write a short story. And who better to judge a short story prize than bestselling author William Boyd CBE. The competition is open to all current Year 10-13 students.

William Boyd wants you to…

Write a short story (under 1000 words) with an unexpected ending

The setting and genre are entirely for you to decide. It can be comic or tragic, period or sci-fi – just make sure it’s under 1000 words. The judges, presided over by William Boyd and who will personally choose the winners, will be looking for the following:

  • An entertaining, enjoyable narrative
  • A convincing setting
  • Believable characters
  • An unexpected ending

Entries Close: 27th May

Winners Announced: 17th June
